At Mobility Futures Alliance, we research to understand the context of all projects that we undertake: who are all the stakeholders, how is one aspect interdependent with other obvious and non-obvious factors, what are today’s challenges to be fixed and what are people’s needs and expectations for the future? Understanding the interrelation of multiple elements requires us to think and work at a systems level.

No-one can predict the future but if we are to present compelling future visions around mobility systems, we had better have well-informed ideas about plausible future scenarios. This requires us to continually track social, technological, economic, environmental and political trends, so that we can argue, debate and arrive at these plausible futures. We think of this as researching the future.
