Geoff Wardle

With a lifetime’s fascination in the future of all forms of transportation, Geoff’s career has embraced both industry and academia. He passionately believes that to attain a sustainable world we must design transportation from a holistically integrated, systems perspective. While not easy, this requires an open mind and facilitating all stakeholders in the process of seeking solutions. Geoff has spent many years working as a designer with well-known vehicle companies including British Leyland and Chrysler in the UK, SAAB in Sweden, Ford in Australia and TVS Motors in India. Experienced in everything from concept design to studio head, consulting, and collaborating with suppliers across Europe, Geoff feels privileged to have worked and learned across such different cultures. In 1993, Geoff was invited to chair the Transportation Design program at the Art Center (Europe) campus in Switzerland. Later, at the parent campus of ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, he held several academic and administrative positions. He takes most pride in the Graduate Transportation Systems and Design program that he founded and ran until 2023. This program very much reflected his holistic beliefs and industrial insights. Education – B.S. (Hons) Vehicle & Mechanical Engineering, Hatfield Polytechnic, UK; M. Des Vehicle Design, Royal College of Art, London, UK

Tim Shih

As a transportation designer with over 25 years’ experience across three continents and four countries, Tim Shih has seen first-hand how the powers of creativity and storytelling have propelled the automobile to become the cultural icon and ubiquitous mode of transportation that it is today. However, as we come to terms with the negative impacts of a car-centric society, it is clear that rest of the mobility ecosystem can also benefit from the same attention to develop holistic solutions that benefit all, while reducing environmental impact. Tim brings a range of education and experience to this pursuit that involves the built environment, product design, and systems thinking. He has studied architecture (North Carolina State University), vehicle design (Vehicle Research Institute at Western Washington University), and automotive design (Art Center College of Design). His professional experience has included automotive manufacturers (BMW in Germany and China), heavy trucks (Volvo in the US), and tier-one suppliers (Johnson Controls in Germany and Japan). In his most recent role, Tim was Global VP of Design and User Experience at Yanfeng International and led creative teams in China, Germany, and the US to global awards and recognition (Red Dot, Good Design, Automotive Brand Contest). Throughout his career, Tim’s ability to bridge between disciplines and across cultures has helped companies and organizations identify commonalities, uncover insights, and develop better solutions for the world—economically, socially, and environmentally. This is the same mission and intention that he now brings to the Mobility Futures Alliance.
